Anne Gately
Anne Gately is the author of Sunburnt, a memoir of a Stage IV melanoma diagnosis that asks what it is about Australian culture that compels us to worship the sun. After a dire prognosis and life-saving immunotherapy treatment, Anne turned to the question of why younger Australians still tan and burn. She has undertaken significant secondary research of peer-reviewed articles on what drives tanning behaviours and how Australia’s social norms came about, and she argues that personal responsibility alone will not bring skin cancer rates down. Anne is one of the authors of the Expert Author Community, where she wrote alongside others turning serious ideas into meaningful books.
